GREAT MERCY OF GOD

THE GREATEST ACT OF MERCY

Mercy is kindness shown to somebody you have power over. God being more powerful than any man and He has no need of your mercy but you need His mercy. It is by God’s mercy that you are not consumed (Lamentation 3:23) Even in the case of judgment God still shows mercy, God clothed Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden even after pronouncing judgment on them (Gen 3:7-21)
This is an act of mercy, God has plan of salvation. The greatest mercy God can show to a man is salvation. Ordinarily, man having sin deserved death (Titus 3:3) But God revealed and allow Jesus to save us in His mercy so that we might not perish but be save (Luke 2:11, Hebrew 2:3) This is the best or greatest act of mercy God has shown to man.

Significance of clothing
Why should God in His mercy cloth you like He did to Adam and Eve?
·         Clothing covers your nakedness
·         Clothing beautifies you
·         Clothing protects you against the enemy
·         Nakedness means lack, shame and disgrace; it exposes you to attack

Man’s attempt to cloth himself can never be accurate or appropriate. Except the Lord who is so merciful clothes us, we be exposed to Satan’s attack.
Therefore, if you must continue to enjoy the mercy of God you need to:
(a)   Live up to God standard
(b)   Continue in the faith
(c)   Confess your sins regularly so as to keep enjoying God’s mercy (1 John 1:9) unconfessed sins will rob you of the mercy of God.
(d)   Have a heart to forgive those who offend you (Matt. 18:20-35) Remember that whatever you sow whether mercy, love, forgiveness etc you will also reap likewise
(e)   Show love and kindness to others
(f)    Study God’s word to know more about the mercy of God
(g)   Preach the word and have faith in Jesus

Mercy is not your right; it is God’s prerogative to show you mercy. He can give the sinner in exchange for your life. Also He can show the unbeliever mercy if He chooses.
When God’s mercy is upon you, you will escape judgment (Hebrew 2:3) Everyday, check your actions and your ways if they are right with God because you do not know the day of His coming

Prayer points:
1.     Ask God to help you remain in Him
2.     Pray that God should destroy every power working to ensure that you are naked and expose to the enemy in Jesus name
3.     Tell God not to allow Satan to make you a candidate of shame.
4.     Tell God to cloth you with the garment of honour and righteousness.
5.     Pray that God should deliver you from every attack of the enemy (Adam and Eve were naked to the enemy’s attack but God clothed them)

TRIUMPHANT IN CHRIST

The word of God says that in the twelfth month, the enemies of the Jews decided to bring terror upon them. That same period, these same enemies were destroyed. (Esther 9:1-5) This twelfth month (December) your enemies will be destroyed in Jesus name!
There is no more condemnation for you because you are in Christ Jesus. Therefore, you are victorious in Christ (Roman 8:28 -) God predestined you and so He will glorify you. You are called according to God’s purpose and you did not give your life for nothing. God called you so that He will justify you. Therefore your future will bring glory to the Lord.
The church therefore is not a place for tradition where we originally have to go to. Rather it is a place where God’s purpose concerning man is fulfilled. Therefore you are a triumphant being in Christ and your future is guaranteed. This season marks another phase for your victory in the Lord, for victory; it means there is a battle to fight and the battle has already be won by Christ.

Areas of victory in a Christian’s life
1.     Victory over sin:
Roman 6:1 sin runs a Christian down. Going about victory over sin is doing the right thing and knowing the word of God
Once God fights your battle and you are victorious; you remain in that state of victory and not go back to sin. Do not move from one miracle house to another. You must balance prayer with the right living. Learn to grow in the Lord. It is not just to collect prayers or receive miracle but know this God who is the giver of miracle. God has given you grace to live above sin, therefore, you need to play your part. Do not go to sleep and say the Holy Spirit will help you. You must know that the ability to win is already given to you.
You are more than conqueror and so you need to be disciplined in your natural inclination and disposition (1 Cor 9:26-27) in God you have victory over your temperament. You must be conscious of controlling yourself, but you may go angry but do not sin
2.     Victory over Satanic influence:
Satan is the source of all trouble and sorrows. Know that the harder your challenges, the greater your victory. Like everybody have a star and it will shine for your own world. God has made you a winner

How to live a triumphant life
(a)   You have to know the truth. This truth will set you free and declare you God’s elect. The word of God is true and light to all men
(b)   You have to walk in the light of the truth (John 1:4-5) Many Christians do not walk in the light. If you must be victorious in life, walk in the light because the light overcomes darkness
(c)   Learn to be cheerful because Christ has overcome the world. Put God’s word into action. Don’t sit down and say God will be done; avoid distress, pain, sorrow and defeat.
(d)   You need to learn to worship God from your heart.
(e)   Be focused. This will make you victorious. What is your skilled? Develop it. Like an overcome do not remain on the average level.
(f)    Be prayerful. You must ultimately e winner, prayer is very necessary. When you pray, say it, believe it and it will come to pass.
You are line crosser, a barrier breaker in Jesus name. Being a line crosser and a barrier breaker start by giving your life to Jesus Christ

YOUR DEVINE DUTY ON EARTH

GOD THE ARCHITECT OF THE HOME
The home is a small unit designed by God and consisting of a man, his wife and possibly children. The world is the entire environment where the home operates.
Reasons why God designed the home:
  1. So that His children will have dominion over all other creatures made by Him.
  2. So that His children will be fruitful and increase in all aspects, fill the earth and then subdue it. Read Genesis 1:26-28
  3. God designed the home so that He could use it as a medium to perform signs and wonders Isaiah 8:18. So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them (Genesis 1:27) God made them male and female from the beginning so as to add variety to life through feminity and masculinity. For this reasons we have different strength, different weaknesses, different likes and different dislikes etc
  4. God designed the home to solve the problem of loneliness, Read Genesis 2:18. Are you married but still lonely? Then prayerfully seek God’s guidance and the right counsel so as to put things in order. You must not seek worldly counsel; rather seek godly counsel from God’s servant so that God who is the architect of the home will put your home in order. Only Him can fix any problem in the home.
The home designed by God in Genesis 1:27 was for a man and a woman. This is why a Christian marriage is God’s creation of life – long union of a man and woman joined in matrimony to the exclusion of all others. Which means polygamy, polyandry, lesbianism, homosexuality and cohabiting without paying of bride price etc are not included in this definition. God’s idea from the beginning is monogamy.
It takes time, patience and God’s wisdom to build a home and ensure that your home does not become a house or just a dwelling place for the man and the woman. The home must be a wonderful world for you as a married man or woman

Essentials in the home
All the essentials you need to make your home a wonderful world is contained in Genesis chapters 1,2 and 3
Your home must be a place of peace and comfort. There must be mutual respect in the home. Always remember that respect is reciprocal and your children if any will copy you and do likewise. In Genesis 2:18 God gave Adam a helper comparable to him. Not a slave girl or just a housewife. So you must not turn your wife to a slave or punching bag. God’s word must take precedence over culture/tradition in your home
If you are a woman, you must posses a gentle and quiet spirit and be submissive. Be wise enough to build your home (Proverb 14:1) Are you a man? It must not be difficult for you to love your wife. When the home is at peace, everything about you will be at peace. This means that your world will radiate peace and influence other lives for Jesus. This is God’s desire for you. So go ahead and make your home a wonderful world.

CHRISTIAN HOME
The synonym of a Home is a House. The Home is being accommodated by a house (i.e The home is inside the house) A Christian may have a house but no home. The desire of God is that you have a home. If you are raising a house and not a home, then you are classified among the wicked. The wicked are those who neglect the way of the Lord. God places curse on the wicked.
When you establish your home in God’s will, you will end well. Jesus our Saviour, John the Baptist and all the Apostles of old were raised in their own home while they were here on earth. The question is what is a home? A home is a place where you are properly and specially catered for, both spiritually, physically, morally etc. every Christian ought to have a home.
Home is the origin of every man. After a man has been born, he should be carefully brought up in a home

SOME BASIC REASONS FOR THE HOME
1.       God desires to raise godly seeds through the home (Malachi 2:15)
2.       The home is an institution to teach our children the counsel of God (Deut 6:5-7, Gen 18:19) Therefore the home should be in the right atmosphere through which God can plant His word.
3.       The home will provide a platform for propagation of godliness.
4.       The home provides an atmosphere for homeliness or comfort. If you want  this kind of atmosphere for your home then you must do the following:
1.       Obey the Lord
2.       Love, honour and pray for one another in your home
3.        Cultivate the habit of telling the truth to one another (both Parents and children) Psalm 51:6. Do not keep secrets from each other.
4.       You must not be self centered. Consider others in the home before yourself.
5.       Speak quietly and respectfully to one another. Learn to use soft words to prevent hurting each other to create an atmosphere of love
6.       Correction should be done in love
7.       Learn to forgive and forget when somebody is sorry.

A home is an atmosphere where the Holy Spirit should always dwell. It is the Holy Spirit that creates the atmosphere around your life so do not stop His move. The Christian home is a target of the devil so take heed. Do not grieve the Holy Spirit by distorting the atmosphere in the home. You must take proper care of the home that God has given you because you will give account.
The basic ingredient for the home is knowing and accepting Jesus. When you give your life to Jesus and allow Him to be Lord over your home, then your home will experience the atmosphere of homeliness.

HANDLING THE FAMILY

If the family must go on the way God wants, there are seven points that must be taken consideration. For God to reach out to the world His starting point is the Christian home. Though certain things were not outrightly mentioned in the bible, the principles are there to follow. Jesus had a family and a household.
In Luke 4:43, Jesus was rejected by His people/family. Even at that point he still puts up an attitude – He went to another place. He did not deal treacherously with them. Rather he accommodated them saying that for that reason He was sent. Most men put up a negative attitude towards their wives when these wives are rude or stubborn. This is wrong As a man Be accommodative and learn to be patient with your wife.
Divorce results when couples do not dwell together with understanding. In Mark 3:21, Jesus understood the reason why he came. He did not allow His people to control His behavior or vice-versa. He had a focus. As a man or woman what did God call you to be or to do in the home?
Men must provide for and love their wives. Women also must be submissive. Jesus did not demand that His people must agree with Him neither did He try to retaliate their wrong

Seven Points to Consider
1.       As a man you must recognized that there is always a way out: Jesus recognized that His spiritual family will provide what His physical family could not. Although the home begins with 2 people (men and woman) it does not end with them alone
Fellowship in the body of Christ for example is more than attending church services. Christians ought to live as one family with the pastors and elders etc playing their various roles.
2.       Do not fail in your responsibility; Even if your wife is not meeting up, play your role/perform your duties as a man and look unto Jesus (Heb 12:2) Jesus did not allow the difficulties from His home to overshadow His ministry.
3.       Do not be distracted or drawn away from God’s purpose: Jesus refused to allow the opinion of the crowd to derail His direction. As a husband what is your purpose in marriage? What did God call you to do?
Are you also a woman? Read Ruth 1:16-17 what did you have in mind when you were entering into marriage? Don’t ever believe that your marriage will not work. Commit it to God as mentioned in Ruth 3:3
4.       Wash yourself
5.       Anoint yourself (Ruth 3:3) points number 4 and 5 enjoins the woman to wear perfume and be presentable. A perfume is a symbol of character. Therefore your character as a woman should win your husband to you. Dead flies symbolizes wrong behavior (Eccle 10:1) and will have no place in your life as a woman
6.       Change raiment: As a woman you must not remain the same old way. What is your garment? Let your beauty be the character in the inner man (1 Pet 3:16) your best garment is your changed character.
7.       Get down to the threshing floor: As a woman you must believe in your husband and give yourself to whatever he believes in and he is doing as long as it glorifies God. As a man pray that God will help you to be accompaniment. As a woman also prays that every form of dead flies over your life causing rejection from your husband should be destroyed in Jesus name.

DRAWING THE MERCY OF GOD
‘’ Mercy prevails over judgement’’ James 2:13 the mercy of God in our live is the intervention of God in the flow situation of our life. All the difficulties and afflictions one encounters will be taken care by Jesus “Behold, the eye of  the Lord is upon them that fear Him, upon them that hope in His mercy’’ let thy mercy O  Lord, be upon us according as we hope in Thee Psalm 33:18-22
The mercy of God prevails over every form of judgement and because of God’s mercy; the yoke of the ungodly is broken. When the mercy of God comes upon you, burden will be rolled away. When the children of God were faced with the red sea, God through Moses commanded them to move forward. This was a situation of mercy (on the side of the Israelites) and judgement on their enemies, even the element of the earth example water. The mercy of God will prevail over your life in Jesus name. By God’s mercy you will move forward (Exodus 14:15)
What is this mercy of God?
The mercy of God is the flow of the law of God into the life of His people to bring them out of affliction and misery.
The mercy of God removes or intervenes in every intense problem. The mercy of God will cause you to be reckoned with.
The mercy of God also reveals some difficulties Daniel 2:18. The mercy of God ultimately is for God’s children. May the mercy of God not depart from your life Read Psalm 91?
The mercy of God showed Shadrack Meshack and Abednego and they were delivered. That same mercy will show in your situation today in Jesus name. God says He will have mercy upon those He chooses to have mercy.
God mercy cannot be wasted. If you must enjoy His mercy, you must live in total obedience to Him. The wrath of God will not rest upon those who trust in Him; rather His anger and judgement will rest upon His enemies.
Your unconditional obedience to God will draw His mercy upon you and His hand will move to attend to your situation. Your hope for God’s mercy will not be cut short in Jesus name.

SACRIFICE FOR KINGDOM PROGRESS

MULTIPLICATION THROUGH COMMITMENT AND SACRIFICE (1 Cor. 9:19-23, 11 Cor. 4:7-10, Acts 5:12-15)
The first Sunday of October is the barley harvest Sunday in Four square Gospel Church. It is a period to remind ourselves as a movement of our commitment to the great commission, church planting, church growth and missionary endeavours. This is our focus.
Everything God has created is for a purpose, just as every part of the human body is created for a particular function, you are created to accomplish the purpose of God.
John the Baptist had to be born to introduce Jesus Christ. This was so that we might be delivered from the hands of the devil (Luke 1:74.) God saved you so that you can serve Him wholeheartedly, every other blessing will be added unto you (Matt 6:33)
(a)    Multiplication through your commitment to soul-winning:
Commitment means dedication to a cause, an aim, a promise or obligation. It requires a life of sacrifice. Surrounding your life for God’s use in the area of soul winning is sacrifice but also rewarding. Bible says he that wins souls is wise (Prov. 11:30) Soul winning (Evangelism) is the heartbeat of God. It is also the priority of the church like Paul (1 Cor. 9:19-21; Mark 16:5 and Romans 1:16) you need to preach the gospel using the instrument of humility and love (Romans 15:1) You must be committed to soul winning because it is the greatest business of God. It depopulates hell and populates the kingdom of God. You commitment through prayer is also very necessary and ultimate (Luke 18:1-7) Therefore pray for hardened sinners, Christians and missionaries facing persecution and also sinners who are already sold out to perdition.
(b)   Multiplication through your sacrifice:
As a child of God you must live a life of sacrifice. For any valuable thing in life you must pay a prize. This also is sacrifice all for the sake of the gospel- sacrifice your time, talent, gifts etc to bring men and women to God.
(c)    Commitment and sacrifice by Kingdom minded people:
To be kingdom minded is to constantly think about and respond promptly to the things of God. Kingdom mindedness is to be open to positive believes, it is progressive, its gates are shut to the negative. Therefore, your commitment will produce a great harvest if you are kingdom minded (Psalm 126:6) God will be committed to do His work at every point in time, even through you (Acts 12:12-13)
Ultimately, therefore, duty calls for you as a Christian to wake up and work vigorously to meet God’s eternal purpose for the kingdom. He needs your commitment and sacrifice for missions.
(Missions encompass evangelism, soul winning, church planting, discipleship and church growth.) As you do this without any divergence, you will not go unrewarded. Rise to the challenge, pray and ask God to help you.

CHRISTOPHER BARTLETT (THE GREAT THINKER)

LIFE AND CARRER
Christopher Barlett is Thomas D. Casserly Jr. professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School. Before joining the faculty of Harvard, he was a marketing manager with Alcoa in Australia, a management consultant in Mckinsey and company’s London office, and general manager at Baxter Laboratories’ subsidiary company in France.
His research interests have focused on the strategic and organizational challenges which managers face in running multinational corporations, and these interests have been reflected in his most successful books.
Managing across Borders was cited by the Financial Times as one of the50 most influential business books of the country.

CONTRIBUTION
Managing across borders
Ghoshal and Bartlett’s thinking begins with two fundamental questions:

·         What does strategy mean?
·         Why do the time-honored business models-exemplified by Alfred Sloan’s General Motors-no longer work?
Their initial search involved asking over 250 managers in nine multinational companies how their companies were facing up to the complexities of international competition and the growing global marketplace. They identified a pervasive organizational inability to cope, survive and succeed in the face of growing diversity and accelerating change.
They found three types of organizational model in operation:
·         The multinational model, exemplified by Philip or Unilever – a decentralized federation of local firms held together by posting key people from the centre.
·         The global model, exemplified by Ford and Matsuishita – benefiting from large scale economies and conduits into new market opportunities
·         A more widespread international model – focusing on technology and the transfer of knowledge to less advanced environments.
They concluded that a fourth model was necessary – the transnational – which would combine all the element of the other three and in addition, exploit local know-how as a key weapon in identifying opportunities and not operate overseas sites as outposts of the centre.

EFFICIENCY VERSUS ECONOMIC PROGRESS
To understand why the old model no longer worked, Ghoshal examined Alfred Sloan’s General Motors, the pioneer of the three Ss (Strategy-structure-system) emulated by other companies for decades.
The three Ss were designed to make the management of complex organizations systematic and predictable. The top people in the organization crafted the strategy, and then designed the structure that enabled it to unfold and the system that made it operational. The information system they relied on dealt with facts and reduced the human element to a minimum. Employees on Ford’s assembly lines, for example, were viewed as replaceable parts; ITT under Harold Geneen, abolished the possibility of surprise by constantly establishing unshakeable facts
For years the systematic approach worked. It started to break down only in the 1980s, when converging technologies, fluctuation markets, overnight competition, and technological innovation combined to make its control systems cumbersome, unresponsive and ultimately a risk to the survival of the organization itself. An article by  Ghoshal Christopher Barlett and Peter Moran in the Sloan Management Review, Spring 1999 (A new manifesto for management pp 9-20) pointed out that criticisms of these systems for stifling initiative, creativity and diversity were valid. They were designed for an organization man who has turned out to be an evolutionary dead end (p. 11)
In the same article, the author implicitly attacked Michael Porter’s work. Porter had influenced strategic thinking for over a decade by arguing that organizations must beat the competition by gaining a stronghold on value, that is, by either reducing competitions’ value (perhaps through competitive incremental cost or quality improvements) or buying them out Ghoshal wrote: ‘’Porter’s theory is static in that it focuses strategic thinking on getting the largest possible share of a fixed economic pie (p 12) FOR Ghoshal companies exist not to appropriate value but to create it – and they get themselves into a position to be able create value by changing the smell of the place .

FONTAINEBLEAU AND CALCUTTA: THE SPRINGTIME THEORY
Ghoshal developed his “springtime theory” while teaching business policy at INSEAD in the forest of Fontainebleau, south of Paris. During a summer visit to his home city of Calcutta, he found the humidity oppressive and draining and likened this to the stultifying atmosphere in control- and system-oriented corporate climates. Later, walking in the woods at Fontainebleau, he realized that the fresh, energizing forest reminded him of the cultural atmosphere of more open and dynamic organizations .From this he went on to propound his springtime theory, arguing that managers and approaches to management strongly affect cultures and can create or change the organizational context, “the smell of the place” But how.

THE THREE Ps
Ghoshal considered that today’s leading companies are built around the three Ps. Purpose, Process and People. In an interview in management skill and development, he claimed that, as shapers of purpose, senior managers need to create a shared ambition among their staff, instill organizational values and provide personal meaning for the work their staff do. Creating that shared ambition is an active management process that challenges poor performance, establishes a common goal, demonstrates managers commitment and self-discipline and provide meaning for everyone’s effort (P 40)
In the same interview, Ghoshal also stressed the need for organizations to:
·         Start thinking outside the strategic planning box examining how they actually learn.
·         Complement vertical information flows with horizontal personal relationships
·         Build a trust-based culture by spreading a message of genuine openness
·         Share all the information that has traditionally been a source of power
He said: you cannot have faith in people unless you take action to improve and develop them. The success of businesses depends now more than ever on the talent of people working for them (P.39) in short, organizations need to forge a new moral contract with their people.

THE NEW MORAL CONTRACT
In the past, the contract between organizations and employees promised relative security in return for conformity. In the 1990s, however, this changed; job security was undermined by downsizing and re-engineering, while managerial approaches such as total quality management and customer focus demanded more involvement and initiative from employees. The new contract Ghoshal proposed is based on developing employability and providing challenging jobs rather than functional boxes. It should be neither viewed neither as altruism on the company’s part nor as something imposed on employees. It is rather, a new management philosophy  that recognizes that personal development both improves employees’ performance and make them more employable in their future working lives, and that market performance stems from the initiative, creativity and skills of all employees and not just the wisdom of senior management.
Such a contract involves a great leap for both organizations and employees. Employers must create a working environment with opportunities
For personal and professional growth, within a management environment in which it is understood must make greater commitment to continuous learning and development and the only hedge against a changing market.

COMPANIES AS VALUE CREATORS
Ghoshal felt strongly that organization must stop focusing on squeezing out every last cost saving waste reduction or improvement in quality or efficiency. That may seem like the ultimate goal of TQM and continuous improvement, but organizations with that sole aim are only good at improving existing activities. Their emphasis is wholly on conservation, which, as Ghoshal pointed out, jack Welch of GE described as a ‘ticket to the bonyyard’
The main message of Ghoshal and Bartlett’s most recent book, The individualized Corporation (1998) was a key to competitive advantage in a turbulent economy is a company’s ability to innovate its way out of relentless market pressure. As companies shift emphasis from acquiring value to creating it, managers should shift their focus away from obedience, control and conformity to initiative, relationship building and continuous challenge of the status quo. Instead of being cogs in a system, they should become facilitators and people developers, drawing creativity from others.

CONTEXT AND CONCLUSIONS
Doing the time that Ghoshal came to prominence, his focus shifted from international strategy to the importance of putting people, creativity and innovation at the top of the agenda and of emphasizing high-quality management as a social and moral value-creating force.

GO FORTH AND DECLARE GOD’S SALVATION (LUKE 8:27-29)
To proclaim the good news is to publicly and officially declare the love of Jesus to many who believe in Him and His death on the cross just to save mankind

The best miracle that can ever happen to man is the miracle of salvation. Jesus therefore commands everyone in Mark 16:15-19 to go forth and tell about the good news of salvation. You need to declare the saving grace of Jesus. Proclaim it, speak it to all and sundry.

And they went out and preached everywhere, the lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs! Amen (Mark 16:20)
The disciples of Jesus went and preached everywhere after the command of Jesus. Having obeyed that command, what followed that obedience were signs and wonders.

Your primary assignment as a Christian is to be effective in proclaiming the good news. In John 4:28-29, 39, the Samaritan woman encountered Jesus. Many of the Samaritans came to the knowledge Jesus Christ because of the saying of the woman.

As a Christian who has encountered Christ you need to tell others your experience. Your life must preach Jesus even in silence. This means that your character must preach the good news.
How will you be effective in proclaiming the good news if you have no character? You must know that there is no charisma or integrity without character.

The beautiful attitude that Jesus expects from you are recorded in Matthew 5:1-16. You must be a peace maker and be at peace with your neighbours. As a Christian you can also proclaim the good news through the manifestation of the power of God in you. Consider the account of the layman at the beautiful gate. Peter spoke the word in the name of Jesus and he was healed (Acts 3:1-9). You can also allow God to use you.
Brethren can preach the good news by their relationship with one another. When the love of Christ radiates among God’s people, it will win many souls to God. Therefore, Christians are to truly love one another so as to show the love of Christ.

Are you dependable and honest? Are you still salt, can you still season the world and make the life around you sweet? Are you still light, can you still shine as the light that Jesus made you to be? Read Matthew 5:13-16. If your answer is no, rededicate your life to God today and ask for His Grace.

Are you yet to know Jesus? Then it is impossible to proclaim the one you do not know. But you have an opportunity now to encounter Him so that you can also share this good news of salvation with others.
Acknowledge that you are a sinner and confess your sins to Jesus. Truly repent of them and determine in your heart to forsake them. Pray to Him come into your life. If you have honestly and wholeheartedly done these things, begin to serve Him and proclaim the good news of salvation which you have just received
